The Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club is looking for an experienced business development professional to help lead the growth and development of new and renewal partnership business. The Senior Manager of Partnership Development will be a dynamic and experienced sales professional, with the proven ability to develop and sell impactful and innovative partnerships. They must be passionate about being part of a winning business team and love the game of baseball.
The ideal candidate will be a creative and energetic, with a strong acumen for business development. You must have an established network of contacts across multiple industries, be skilled at identifying and engaging contacts at brands in priority, new and emerging categories, and the ability to generate strong prospect volume, which ultimately creates new or retains existing partnerships that drive TBJ’s revenue.
The position reports to the Vice President, Partnerships.
Responsibilities
Drive Growth:
- Drive revenue for the club by developing impactful partnerships with tier-one brands.
- Identify and convert new partners in open and emerging categories; grow our existing partnerships through renewals.
- Focus on high priority, new and emerging partnerships categories to drive business results.
- Pursue partnership opportunities that are based on “big ideas” that drive business results for our partners and elevate the experience for our passionate fans across Canada.
- Secure multi-year, high value partnerships that meet and exceed established revenue targets.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing partners, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and engagement.
Innovate:
- Proactively identify trends and best practices in the sports marketing/sponsorship industry to incorporate into our business.
- Continually reimagine the status quo and build breakthrough marketing partnerships.
- Provide thought leadership during ideation phase; develop customized, integrated and creative partnership proposals that demonstrate insight and knowledge of clients’ business, and TBJ’s unique competitive advantages.
Plan:
- Build comprehensive and strategic business plans that address opportunities in identified priority, new and emerging categories.
- Utilize data, research tools to prospect and identify prospects in new categories, to demonstrate how the Blue Jays brand values and fan segments align with a prospect’s marketing objectives and target consumers.
Collaborate & Lead:
- Lead the partnership development process from initial touchpoint through contract negotiation and execution.
- Collaborate with internal cross functional colleagues in Strategy, Analytics, Research, Legal, Marketing, Concessions and Stadium Operations to develop and pitch creative marketing solutions that align with business objectives of industry-leading brands.
- Support the Partnership Marketing and Strategy teams in the partner renewal process.
- Work alongside the Partnership Marketing & Strategy teams to seamlessly onboard new partners to the organization, identify partner KPIs, measure key metrics throughout the season, and present results on an annual basis.
- Collaborate with colleagues and demonstrate work behaviours that inspire those around you.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in a business-related field.
- 8+ years of demonstrated success in a revenue-generating marketing partnerships position.
- An established track record of identifying, building, and converting 7-figure partnerships.
- An established base of existing corporate relationships across multiple industries.
- Proven experience and success with client management.
- A proven sales professional with a track record of success combined with career marketing experience (Brand Manager or Marketing Manager) preferred.
- An understanding of new media and a desire to stay current on emerging digital platforms.
- Strong relationship skills required to work with top-tier clients and internal leaders.
- Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced PowerPoint skills, proven use of analytics & research to support selling process
- Proven prospector with a track record of securing meetings.
- Self-motivated to set and chase ambitious goals, works well with minimal direction, and motivated by results.
- Proactively identify and manage critical issues; demonstrate resilience and adapt to evolving plans and strategies; where conflicting issues on partnerships arise, an ability to find solutions along with the internal team.
- Strong and clear commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; you lead with inclusive behaviour; you seek to understand how others view and experience the world
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and effectively multi-task with attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Ability to travel to destinations across North America on occasion (up to 10%).
- This position requires the ability to work from Rogers Centre.
- This role is in the sports and entertainment business and will require the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
