Be part of building a national brand.  Headquartered in Toronto, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is a national, private, not-for-profit organization committed to high performance sports excellence.  We are the largest private supporter of high-performance sport in Canada and we are responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including the participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games.

Reporting to the Manager, Athlete Marketing and Olympian Legacy (AMOL), the Program Manager, AMOL role provides leadership and day-to-day management in athlete engagement across all COC and Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF) departments. The Athlete Marketing and Olympian Legacy strategy fulfills the COC’s mission of promoting the values and principles of Olympism and leading the achievement of the Canadian Olympic Team’s success. Engaging athletes within the corporate world and community is a key tactic to elevate the Olympian status beyond competition on the field of play and to bring the Olympic Movement closer to Canadians.

LOCATION

This position will be located in the COC office in Montreal, QC, at 500 René-Lévesque Boulevard West or in Toronto located at ON at 250 Yonge St. Suite 3000. We offer a hybrid work model that allows for up to three days of remote work each week.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES

Strategy, Planning and Oversight

  • Create, oversee and execute the Athlete Engagement Communication Plan (Website, Newsletter, OLY Inbox and OLY Network)
  • Track and report on the performance of AMOL communication platforms
  • Manage the Games Anniversary Program from ideation to execution:
    1. Lead in the planning and execution of the program
    2. Track and report on the Games anniversary budget
  • Lead the intern program for the AMOL team; assume responsibility for hiring, training, professional development, workload assignment, and evaluation.
  • Support the recruiting and managing of freelance contributors.
  • Act as the Functional Area Lead for the At-home Games Athlete Engagement and Team Canada Celebration:
    1. Manage and lead all at-home athlete engagement needs of the COC and its partners
    2. Support in the Olympic Games host city as appropriate.
    3. Support the Manager, Athlete Marketing & Olympian Legacy with Team Canada Celebration project and other events associated with TCC (i.e. community involvement, digital, government and protocol requests).
    4. Support with all other aspects of Games preparation as necessary.

Athlete Marketing Program Delivery

  • Act as an in-house expert and inter-departmental consultant on Team Canada Olympians for commercial related requests:
    1. Provide input to create a best fit between athlete requests and the athletes’ personalities, skills and interests.
    2. Provide guidance on Olympians and stories to be included in marketing campaigns, promotions, sponsorship opportunities and media availability.
    3. Represent athletes’ interests in all phases of projects involving Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.
  • Monitor and implement the Athlete Engagement protocol throughout the year to ensure effectiveness for all parties involved:
    1. Survey and meet key stakeholders (athlete representatives, NSOs and corporate partners) to seek out efficiencies and opportunities for further collaboration on commercial requests.
  • Execute all COC, COF and corporate partner athlete engagement requests:
    1. When needed, assist in facilitating external and international (i.e. IOC) requests. This includes certain elements of event execution (i.e. Planning, communication, invoicing).
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the Athlete and Agent Summit and support the Manager, Athlete Marketing & Olympian Legacy at all phases of the project.

Olympian Legacy Plan

  • Provide support to deliver the OLY Canada Legacy Grant program and any other Legacy activities lead by the Manager, Athlete Marketing and Olympian Legacy (e.g. OLY Reunions)
  • Update the database of active and retired Team Canada Olympian as required

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Build new and nurture existing relationships with all Team Canada Olympians;
  • Closely collaborate with:
    1. COC colleagues;
    2. Athlete Representatives – more than 50 Agents;
    3. National Sport Organizations – 55 NSOs Communication or Marketing leads;
    4. Corporate partners – Via our Partnership team; and
    5. Other stakeholders – CPC, Sport Canada, OLY Canada, etc.
  • Periodic Montreal office or Toronto office trips to maintain strong relationship with Brand and Commercial team and other COC departments, as appropriate;
  • Travel required (domestic and possibly international);
  • Ability to work flexible and extended hours when needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITICAL SKILLS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in sport administration, business, communication or a related field;
  • 3-5 years of related work experience;
  • Olympian and/or familiarity with current and retired Olympians is a strong asset;

Skills and Abilities

  • Bilingualism required (excellent written and spoken English and French);
  • In-depth knowledge of Olympic sports and familiarity with Team Canada Olympians and hopefuls;
  • Understanding of Canadian and international sport landscape and high-performance context reality;
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders of the business;
  • Program Management skills, including planning, project management, problem solving, and facilitating;
  • Comfortable with being the representative of the COC brand and delivering presentations/remarks at high profile events;
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects concurrently;
  • Self-starter and ability to work effectively on a team;
  • Great sense of accountability;
  • Ability to work with loose supervision;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Experience implementing and monitoring policies and processes to facilitate operations (asset);
  • Curiosity and creative spirit;
  • Computer skills, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Good knowledge of WordPress;
  • Good knowledge of and experience with Mailchimp or other e-mail marketing services;
