We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Basketball Operations reporting to the General Manager to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Director, Basketball Operations will support the General Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations and logistics of the Tempo team. This individual has a proven track record of managing all team operations with travel arrangements, hospitality, scheduling, facility coordination, housing, and player engagement. In this role, the Director, Basketball Operations will be accountable for all Tempo team operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Operations & Logistics

  • Lead and manage all player travel arrangements including and not limited to flights, hotel bookings, and car rentals.
  • Lead all team and player communications and in-market player needs with internal and external partners.
  • Manage daily operations of the team and programming.
  • Coordinate facility scheduling for all games and practice sessions.
  • Manage basketball programming budget ensuring expenses are within the rules and regulations of the organization.
  • Oversee any team or player off court engagement and/or community programming.
  • Lead and manage any special projects designated by leadership.
  • Key point of contact for visiting teams and managing practice player teams.
  • Assist head coach with ongoing team calendar management.
  • Remain compliant with all WNBA regulations and league obligations.
  • Off court player development by coordinating with staff to ensure players are meeting their growth potential.
  • Work closely with the head coach and assistant coaches to ensure the team’s strategic direction is aligned with the overall roster and available resources.
  • Help establish and maintain a positive team culture, ensuring good communication between players, coaching staff, and management.
  • Represent the team at public events, media engagements, and community outreach programs.
  • Enhancing the team reputation by acting as a spokesperson and fostering positive relationships with fans, stakeholders, and the media.
  • If issues arise, assist with resolving player disputes, dealing with disciplinary actions, and maintaining team unity.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma required, in a related field is an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience within a sports organization. WNBA, NBA, NCAA, or FIBA preferred.
  • Highly organized self-starter with meticulous attention to detail, time management and flexible in approach to projects and problems, resourceful, and works well in a face-paced environment.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills; can clearly communicate within a cross-functional work environment.
  • Ability to thrive in change, while always maintaining high attention to detail in a deadline driven environment.

Terms of Employment: Full-Time / Contract
Employment Location: 40 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5H 3Y2
Hours of Work: 40 hours/week
Language: English

Benefits: Eligible for discretionary bonuses and/or salary increases in accordance with company policy. Eligible for extended medical insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance, and emergency medical travel coverage.

Salary: $110,000 to $117,000 CAD per year
