Overview of the Position
The Community Relations Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and managing key community engagement programs for the 2025 Canada Games, with a focus on the Torch Relay Program, Mascot Program and the Catch the Spirit Education Program. This role will involve overseeing the development, and execution of these programs that are designed to build strong relationships with local communities and schools. By leading these initiatives, the Specialist will help raise awareness and encourage active participation, contributing to the overall success and lasting legacy of the 2025 Canada Games.
Key Responsibilities
This role will be responsible for, but not limited to:

Oversee the planning, development, and execution of community-focused projects;

Oversee and manage the performance and development of two coordinators;

Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, community groups, and other community partners;

Create comprehensive project timelines, set measurable objectives and establish clear deliverables for each phase of the project;

Plan and manage the logistical aspects of community events, including venue selection, equipment rental, transportation, catering, and materials preparation;

Collaborating with internal teams to ensure effective volunteer training for community events and programs;

Manage budgets for community projects and events, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and cost-effectively;

Tracking participation and engagement metrics, and reporting on the success and impact of community programs and initiatives;

Being a fully engaged team member with a goal of positive and healthy relationships in the workplace.

Executing all responsibilities in a manner which is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the St. John’s 2025 Canada Games, and;

Fulfilling all other duties as reasonably required.
Education/Experience
-
Diploma or undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Event Management, Project Management, or a related field;

Minimum three (3) years of related work experience or a combined equivalent of education and work experience.
Qualifications

Strong project management skills with the ability to plan and execute community projects on time and within scope

Experience organizing and coordinating community events

Skilled in creating and managing budgets for programs and events

Expertise in coordinating event logistics and resources
-
Creative, results-oriented, able to deliver on deadlines and deliverables

Strong written and verbal communication skills, building relationships with diverse communities

Experience with Google’s G Suite programs (e.g. Gmail, Docs, Slides, Forms and Calendar, etc.)

Proven ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers effectively
-
Ability to liaise and interact with multiple partners, locally, provincially and nationally.

Knowledge and experience working in a not-for-profit

Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.

Based on position requirements, flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays
Conditions of Employment

Office hours are 40 hours/week
